| Finally
there will be a marker in the Mission Dolores Cemetery to acknowledge
individual neophytes. The grave marker acknowledges JOCBOCME and POLYLEMJA, Old Mission Dolores Curator Andrew Galvan’s great-great-great-great grandparents who were baptized at Mission Dolores and given the Christian names Obulinda and Faustino; and later their funerals were held in the Old Mission Church, followed with burial in the Mission Cemetery. Of course, it would not have been possible to obtain this information if it wasn't for Randy Milliken's ethnological research. Rick Thompson has done all of the letter carving by hand. Thompson has also built all the new museum display cases in the upgraded Mission Dolores Museum. Funding has been provided by the California Missions Foundation. This marker was erected Friday afternoon, June 26, 2009, near the new tule reed house constructed by Norm Kidder and Jan Southworth. Do come by and visit the Old Mission, the birthplace of modern San Francisco! In another important development, Mission Dolores has recently been gifted with a video and motion censor security system. The security system is the 12th one installed in the 21 Alta California Missions. Mr. Larry Tracy and his sons have installed the cameras and motion sensors, all together 32 cameras, in the Old Mission, the Museum, the cemetery, the Rectory, our school and staff parking lots, and the Mission Dolores Basilica. Thank you Larry and sons Patrick and Scott. |
